The passed pawn and Tarrasch's rule

A passed pawn can't be stopped by any enemy pawn. And rooks belong behind it: the further it advances, the more active the rook.

Key ideas

1. Push the passed pawn without hesitating.
2. Put the rook behind the pawn, not in front of it.
3. An outside passed pawn drags the enemy king far away.

When to use it

In rook endgames and pawn endgames.
